His Excellency Nabil Masarweh confirms that supporting the fish sector is one of the tributaries of food securityIn a meeting between His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Mr. Nabil Masarweh, and Engineer Mohammed Shaheen, President of the Fish and Marine Life Breeders Association, His Excellency emphasized that activating cooperation with all sectors, especially the fish sector, positively reflects on improving the national economic situation. This is based on a participatory approach that enhances effective partnerships and contributes to achieving sustainable development and building a green Jordanian economy to reach the ultimate goal of providing a better life for all.
During the meeting, he pointed out the importance of protecting and preserving the environment, in addition to enhancing environmental monitoring and law enforcement. He confirmed that the ministry will work on facilitating environmental licenses and approvals and streamlining procedures for investors in accordance with the law, especially everything related to supply chains associated with developing the fish sector, such as the fish feed factory intended to be established. Especially since the Corona pandemic proved the need to support national industry and agriculture to meet the needs of the local market after the disruption of supply chains to the local market at the beginning of the pandemic.
For his part, Engineer Mohammed Shaheen reviewed the national strategy for developing the fish sector, which the association prepared and developed in partnership with the public and private sectors. This strategy aligns with what the Minister spoke about regarding the Ministry of Environment's strategy for 2020-2022, the ministry's strategic plan, and the policy that the ministry will follow, which will support the fish sector in Jordan and the importance of achieving food security in Jordan.The Minister noted the Partnership Council with the private sector and civil society institutions, which came from the ministry's belief in enhancing partnership. The council will provide advice on environmental issues. Engineer Mohammed Shaheen confirmed the association's desire to join this council as a civil society institution representing farmers in the fish sector.
The meeting was also attended by Engineer Bilal Qtaishat, Director of Nature Protection at the Ministry of Environment, who emphasized the importance of preserving fish wealth, controlling cultivated species, and working on establishing laws for fishing and preserving original strains in Jordan found in its reserves.The prospects and challenges facing the fish farming sector in Jordan, environmental policies and protocols, and aspects of future cooperation between the ministry and the association were discussed for the benefit of the national economy.
