The Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Khaled Al-Hunaifat, in the presence of the Ministry's Secretary-General and during his meeting with Mohammed Shaheen, President of the Fish and Marine Life Farmers Association, and several members, confirmed that the Ministry looks at the fish sector with great interest as it is a pioneering and promising sector. The Ministry has targeted, through the Agricultural Credit Corporation, directing youth towards this sector, which is classified as a need and shortage, especially since local production constitutes 4% of the local need, which reaches 40 thousand tons annually. Al-Hunaifat indicated that fish farming has been adopted within the training and rehabilitation programs for youth through the agreement concluded with the National Training Company and the Ministry of Labor.
For his part, Shaheen appreciated the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and its interest in this sector. He confirmed that this interest has created a fertile climate for expansion in this important investment, which constitutes added value through employment and achieving a source of income for youth. He pointed to a number of marketing and expansion proposals for the sector, which include training programs and support for micro and medium enterprises, in addition to a fish exhibition. He emphasized the partnership with the Ministry to reach qualitative and horizontal expansion of the sector.
